Unruffled by an early setback, Boeung Ket Angkor steamrolled National Police 7-1 on the back of four Khuon Laboravy goals and a Chan Vathanaka brace in a Metfone C League tie at the Olympic Stadium Yesterday.
Desperately looking for a swing in fortune, the winless Police got off to a dream start by scoring in the ninth minute through a Tit Dina penalty. But the joy was shortlived as Boeung Ket’s trusty striker Laboravy got going.
The first of Laboravy’s four goals came from the spot on the half-hour mark as Police brought the nippy striker down inside the box to concede a penalty.
He blasted two more goals in quick succession to complete his hat-trick before Dzarma Bata slipped one into the Police net with a tidy finish from the edge of the box to give Boeung Ket a healthy 4-1 half-time lead.
After the break, an ill-judged move by Police goalkeeper Prak Phearun presented Laboravy with an easy tap-in for his well-earned fourth. After coach Prak Sovanara substituted Laboravy, Chan Vathanaka took over scoring duties with two well-crafted goals.
The victory took Boeung Ket to the top of the standings, level on points but with a better goal difference than Ministry of National Defence, who were made to work for their 2-1 win over Asia Europe United at the Old Stadium on Saturday.
North Korean strikers Myong Ho-choe and Kim Kyong-hun fashioned the Army win, with a late consolation for AEU coming from Panha.
In Saturday’s other game, Cambodian Mine Action Center outplayed Western Phnom Penh at the Olympic Stadium 4-2 with Rhona Mathew Kenneth bagging three of the goals. The fourth for CMAC was an own goal from Prum Puthsithy. Sen Bunny and Mathew Osa got a goal each for Western.
Smart substitutions brought rich dividends for Phnom Penh Crown as the side eked out a 1-0 win over Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng, who ended up with a slew of yellow cards in Friday evening’s match at RSN Stadium.
Stepping in as a sub in the second session, teenager Pov Ponvuthy earned a corner and it was left to another substitute, George Kelechi, to head home Sok Pheng’s well-delivered flag kick for the only goal of the match.
